Stayed a night in a youth hostel in Metz. Hostels work out expensive for us because you pay per bed and once you’ve timed the price by six you’re paying more than what you pay for an apartment. The advantage is that they are easy to find/book and are usually in good locations for quick one night visits. The other advantage is that you get breakfast included which helps for a quick getaway the next morning. When we stayed at Salisbury YH we made sure we got to the breakfast room as soon as it opened and we all pigged out on sausages and eggs and bacon and tomato and toast and fresh coffee. It was a huge spread and we encouraged the kids to go back for 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, etc. After that experience we drooled in anticipation of what gastronomic delights we would receive at a French breakfast.
We got cold toast with a choice of apricot jam or Nutella.
