|061508 – We packed up our soggy gear and hit the road at about 8AM. We had phone coverage around 10 am and tried to reach the boys mother and Nicole. Nicole had spent the previous day at the US Open at Torrey Pines and enjoying a comedy show in the evening while we were being eaten alive by mosquitoes in our soggy gear. I would take gators over golf any day……….but would pass on the mosquitoes.
We stopped for lunch just outside of New Orleans and had crawfish, catfish, and red beans and rice. I wanted to make sure that the boys had these tastes before advancing across Mississippi and Alabama to Florida.
We arrived in Florida (Big Lagoon State Park) around 3PM, put our gear out to dry, and then went to the beach. The kids went swimming in the shallow water for about an hour. Neil was trying to catch fish with his shirt while Keane was just content splashing in the ocean.
After exploring the beach they took showers and then we went to Subway for dinner given that this was a one night stop and I did not want to cook and clean the dishes. The Gulf Coast is absolutely beautiful. White sand beaches, clear water behind the break, interesting wildlife.
