Itchy Feet travel blog

We started on the Northwest side(Shipwreck Bay, Ahipara,) of the north island

We often surfed where the waves broke near the rocky point, Mochihara...

Watching and learning how waves break from the perch, another view ofshipwreck...

Then headed East after a few days (Taipo bay)

fellow nurse and midwife Georgie proves surfing can be hard work

Drving is allowed on publiclly owened beaches, fortunetly there are no ploves...

Waiting for the perfect wave, Taipo Bay

Not so distant island calling me to dive, taipa bay

After safely returning the car I headed back North again for a 5 day surfing trip. The sandy beaches of the far North Island were perfect for the beginner. I have finally figured out how to predict which way the wave is breaking and actually try to put it into practice. thank goodness for ibuprofen as I have bruises, scrapes and scratches everywhere.

We spent 5 days surfing some of the finest beaches on the north coast. There was only 7 of us and although we did relax at night the focus on this trip and the focus was more about surfing and how read waves.
