Cath Harris and Heather in Beverley.

We started the day with a full farmhouse breakfast at 8:00am before driving in to Beverley for morning coffee with Cath Harris at her house in Beverley (Cath is the widow of Heather’s PhD supervisor Alan Harris). The three of us then drove to pick up Jay Appleton (now 88 years old; Heather’s former geography professor, mentor and friend) at his house in Cottingham, but he was not there. After some local detective work we discovered he was in the Hull Royal Infirmary, so we went to visit him there. Jay was doing fine and will be home soon.

After a day of visiting and reminiscing, we returned to our B&B before returning to the Triton Inn for a special St George’s Day dinner -- roast beef and Yorkshire pudding for Heather, and Sledmere pheasant for Gary.
