Gary at 18th hole, Royal Birkdale Golf Course, Southport – home of...

Sunday morning began with a drive around Horseshoe Pass near Llangollen before we went to Gwilym and Mavis’s (Heather’s Uncle and Aunt) for Sunday dinner. Nearly the whole family was there – cousins Karen, Jeremy and Sandra, Paula (Sandra’s daughter) and ‘Leroy’ (the dog). We had a very nice lunch with lots of laughs and fun, and phoned Mum for a bit of a chat. We left around 3:30p.m. heading North towards the M6.

There was a bad accident on the M6 and we had to divert to the M62; so we drove to the Royal Birkdale Golf Course at Southport to have a look at the course where the 2008 British Open will be played in July. The golf club is busy preparing to host the event, and have already erected several viewing grandstands. We then drove on to Bowness-on-Windermere where we checked into our room at the Eastbourne Guest House, our base for the next two nights.
