Karikari Beach.

Maitai Bay.

The Lighthouse Motel.

Sunset.

Up early to yet more blue sky and sunshine. Going to spend some time just lazing on a beach today. Went to Karikari Peninsular. Found Karikari beach, but not safe to leave car, similar to Ninety Mile beach, very long, straight and sandy. Met a local who said Maitai Bay would be better, and if we had been here yesterday, would have been able to swim with 15 dolphins who came into the bay. Never mind.

Went to other side of peninsular to bay - spent ages just chilling. Amazing place, and quite busy for a beach out here as more than 2 other people.

Headed of to Kaitai information centre, got map and directions to ferry. The Hokianga car ferry runs from its northern terminal to the town of Rawene. Cost was $14 for car and driver plus $2 for per extra passenger. Got the 5 p.m. ferry across. On to Opononi. Fishing town which has Hotel with restaurant/cafe and a take-away. Along road booked into the "Lighthouse Motel" run by Laurie & Heather who had only bought it a month ago.

Drove back into town and treated ourselves to a steak meal at the hotel restaurant - huge peice of sirloin for $27. Had garlic bread for starter - which was maori bread - served up as either half or whole loaf which you slice up youself.

Back at motel walked over road to look at stars. No light pollution here so can see the milky way and hundreds of other stars too.
