More desert

Arrived in Antofagasta on the overnight bus (11 hours) - a grim city so we decided to move straight on to Calama - another three hours on the bus, from where we hoped to visit the world's largest copper mine. On arriving in Calama we found out that the mine was closed to visitors as machinery was being moved to a new area for mining. Foled again!

The Atacama is one of the driest deserts in the world, although when it does rain the area bursts into life with many flowers and frogs!
