Bridget's Trip! travel blog

Slept really well last night and woke up about 7.30. Was hot in room so decided to get up and have breakfast by the pool! When i went back to the room the guy who was on the bottom bunk had checked out so i did a quick swap of beds so no more climbing for me for a while at least!!!

Off to Robben Island soon so looking forward to that!

Carla, Ali and I set off from the hostel a little early so as to mooch around the V&A Waterfront before heading out on our tour. It was beautiful down there so that was great. We got some snacks and then headed to get our tickets which we had prebooked. The boat ride over to the island was lovely except that i ended up with a wet bum...managed to sit on the end of a foam seat which seemed to have a leak under it somehow...soon dried off in the sun though!

WOW - what a fascinating place Robben Island is! On arrival we were asked to get on a bus and were taken for a 45 minute tour of the island. Its only 10m squared but boy has a lot happened there! In case you didn't know its where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years! The tours are run by ex prison guards and ex inmates of the prison! Our bus guide was excellent - really knew his stuff! After the ride around the island we were taken on a walking tour of the actual prison. We got to see Nelson Mandela's cell where he lived while there along with all sorts of other things. If you are ever in Cape Town i definitely recommend doing this tour!

The boat journey back to the mainland was a little rougher but still fine. We decided that as we had technically not really had any lunch we would find somewhere on the harbour overlooking Table Mountain to sit and enjoy some food and a couple of beers! We had some lovely food and also found another restaurant that we decided we would try out on Sunday evening when there would be live Jazz playing! All in all it was a lovely afternoon!
