20th January

Today started early with a taxi drive to the port to catch the speed ferry across the plate river to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. This was the historic first place established in the country and we had an interesting tour round the historic centre. The Ferry only took and hour whereas the normal ferry takes 3 hours so this gives you an idea of how wide the river is. It seemed to be wider than the English Channel.

There were many small museums we visited and a church which is very popular for marriage ceremonies with people coming from Europe and USA as well as Argentina.

The ticket included a free lunch but we found there is no such thing as the drinks cost almost as much as the free lunch and left us with Uruguayan currency which we then had to spend. Another T shirt for me and bag for Christine!

The temperature was very hot and still so we were quite ready to catch the ferry back and had added another country to the passport.

The evening was spent packing yet again ready for a 7am pick up for the airport.
