|A leisurely breakfast and then we were on the road driving up State Highway one North.
We stopped for coffee at Whangarei at the historic basin and harbour and enjoyed looking round the shops.
Lots of very good souvenir shops but we decided to wait.
We found a nice bushwalk and walked to the Whangarei water falls. Not quite on the same scale as Iguassu but nice to see.
At lunch in a road side cafe Audrey recognised the american TV actress from the programme "Everyone loves Raymond" who was over here filming.
During the afternoon we reached Kawakawa which used to be the town of the train which ran down the centre of the High street but is now the toilet centre of New Zealand since a local artist designed and rebuilt the public toilets. They featured on Billy Connelly's tour of New Zealand and are quite famous.
We arrived at Keri Keri and had an enjoyable meal overlooking the harbour.
On the news they announced that "the flight of the conchords" had won a grammy award. We remember Stuart and Alison watching them on Stuarts laptop over Christmas killing themselves laughing. Ian & Audrey had never heard of them but it is an age thing as neither had we.
