|After the early morning start we were checked in ok for the flight to Lima. Although departure tax had been included in the ticket we still had to pay some more before they let us out of the country. If we were too hot yesterday the opposite was true on the plane as people wrapped up in parkas and hoods against the air conditioning in the plane.
At Lima we had to claim our baggage to clear customs and then recheck it back in but for a while all the checkins were closed for security reasons so we watched the clock as our flight to Cusco was not long away. Amazingly the immigration then wanted more airport tax to fly domestically out of Lima. The flight to Cusco was only an hour and a quarter and we quickly claimed our bags and found Arturio from the hotel waiting for us.
If anybody sees Simon Turner tell him that Trip'advisor definitely works. The place is perfect and very friendly and helpful.
The rest of the afternoon was spent resting and drinking the local Coca tea which is recommended to offset altitude sickness. Cusco is 12,000 feet above sea level and most people are affected.
In the evening we went into town for dinner and to replenish the wallet which seems to be constantly hungry!
An early start beckons tomorrow for Machu Picchu.
