Wadi Rum 10 June, 2007
Lars and I took a taxi to Wadi Rum today. It is about an hour out of Aqaba. The taxi ride was $50US return with the taxi driver waiting for us!
Wadi Rum is a fantastic desert landscape of huge cliffs and red sand and was made famous by the exploits of Lawrence of Arabia. The ideal way to see it is to do a 2 or 3 day camel trek, camping under the stars but unfortunately we were out of time so had to settle for a 4 hour jeep trip.
We enjoyed the scenery but the jeep driver was 16 and had no English and no clue about what we were looking at. Could not even point the position out on the map supplied by the tourist authority!
Now back at the boat. I will try and find an internet café tonight. In Egypt and Jordan I have been the only woman in the cafes I have gone to. A little uncomfortable and the smoking isn't so good either!
