As promised the next installment of the Country Bumkins.
Well in Melbourne we managed to fit in a trip to the Aquarium with Nathan and Sebastian, our mates we met on the Adventure Tours bus from Adelaide. We saw loads of sharks, but they were all behind glass, which is deffinately the best way to see them !
The four of us then headed to the observation tower in the tallest building in Melbourne, this building had loads of floors. Thankfully, we didn't get stuck in the lift enroute to the observation deck. The views from hear were amazing and we got the gist, that Melbourne is HUGE !
As we wore ourselves out, we thought we deserved a well earned sun bathing day on the beach at St Kilda. This was very pleasant to begin with, until we realised that we had matching lobster coloured legs. ( The good news is, they have finally gone brown .. ! ).
We had a bit of a drinking session on Wednesday night in the bar at base, as several people from our tour were heading to different parts of the country the following day. This included dancing and a sing song at the end of the night. ! It was very entertaining .. But you can be rest assurred we weren't so entertained the next morning, as we sunk the paracetomol. !
We took a tram to the city on Christmas Eve, to see the Royal Botanical Gardens and this was a real high light of our whole Melbourne experience. It was huge and full of so many different things to see and we even hung out with some mates. ????
That evening we headed to the bar with our room mate 'Jo' for a few drinks, however the music wasn't to our liking. ( It wasn't 70's / 80's ). So we headed out into St Kilda .. Guess where we ended up ? .. Urgh in the cake shop. ! Now this move, should not be frowned upon until you have seen the cake shops in St Kilda. Anyway, our tummys benefited from this move !
Guess that now brings us to Christmas DAY ... Well as predicted we headed straight to the beach at St Kilda and had a barbie, with some peeps from BASE YH. Paul was in charge of the Barbie and believe you me, he cooks a mean Veggie Burger. ! We finised the afternoon off in the St Kilda Botanical gardens, sipping wine and soaking up some rays. ( So you guys how cold was it back home ? ).
Boxing day we left at the crack of dawn, to start our journey towards Sydney !
We seemed to spend loads of time on the bus, so we took advantage and caught up with some sleep. In the afternoon, we found ourselves wine tasting up in the hills and then we headed to a cattle station in Gelantipy.
Upon arrival, we thought we had come home, well not quite .. But you get the gist ! Hereford cattle were grazing in the fields, horses everywhere, Jack Russells were racing about the place and there was even stuffed dingos in the dining room ( Ozzy cover your ears - This is Shelleys Dog and her ancestors are Dingos ! ) We went exploring in the woods and then had the best meal ever, since we left home on the 27th . Shelley had Turkey and I had veggie lasagne. ( With all the trimmings, including apple crumble!). We re-met Carole and Peter at the cattle station, who we met originally in Halls Gap. It was Lovely to catch up with them again.
We left there early the next morning and headed towards Canberra .. So pleased we only stayed there a night, it was like a ghost town. So peeps, if any of you were thinking of going there ... DON'T DO IT !!.
So guess where we are now then ? Any ideas ? ..... Well, we arrived in Sydney on Tuesday 28/12 at 5.00pm. We eventually found our hotel and Shelley made us walk up a steep hill with our back packs on, we are just about talking again now ! Ho Ho Ho.
Oh my god, we are here in Sydney. We headed straight out and found Sydney Opera House, The Rocks and of course Sydney Harbour Bridge. ( We climbed it at 6.15am this morning, but to find out more you will have to tune in after NEW YEARS EVE... Can you wait that long ? )
Many thanks to Jen and Paul, who gave us some money to get a tasty White Wine on Christmas Day.
Hannah's Mum and Dad, you may want to send us some business cards ... We are staying on more cattle stations along the way. We are sure the Ozzie's would luv some Simmental cattle out here. Debbie and Brian, they may like Long Horns too ? Anyone else whilst we are at it ?
Well next time we meet again it will be 2005.
Hope you all have a brilliant New Years Eve and we will fill you in, in 2005.
Loads of Love
Shelley Bell and Hannah
