Tom and Ruthy's travels travel blog

After leaving Opononi we headed down the west coast and headed right through the "kauri coast". Kauri is a species of tree indigenous only to New Zealand and are absolutely enormous! We stopped off to see the bigest one in the world. Then drove a little further a went for a hourish walk through the forest to see amongst others the 2nd biggest and a formation of 4 kauris called the "4 sisters". I was so pleased to have come up close to the kauris especially the biggest ones in the world!

After passing through the forest we reached Matakohe where we spent the night ina really nice little campsite with lovely views over a lake.
