Jennifer coming into Paphos Harbour to pick me up

Sailing towards Israel!

17 May

A text from Lars about 10 am had an ETA of 1300 so based on that I was wandering along the harbour about 11 going back to the hotel to pick up my gear when I saw a yacht entering Paphos Harbour. IT WAS JENNIFER! A beautiful boat! I rushed down to meet Lars and the rest of the crew. I had no idea who or how many were on board.

There were 3 on board. Lars (Swedish), the skipper and owner of the boat, Rick (American) a long term friend of Lars and Jenya (Russian) another paying crew like me. It is a very international boat! All are very nice.

Jennifer is a 50ft Beneteau and a wonderful cruising boat. I have my own cabin and head and will have for the whole trip! Lars has rigged the boat with cushions on various parts of the deck and it is truly comfortable.

After getting clearance from immigration and customs we cleared Paphos and set the auto pilot at 142 degreees bound for Tel Aviv.

The winds have been light so under motor about half the time. In the afternoon while going about two knots I had a swim off the boat. Even at two knots I had to be careful not to let the boat get away from me.

As I write this it is 5pm and Tel Aviv is about 75 nautical miles away. We will get in about 9am after another all night sail.

The stars are beautiful and I enjoy the solitude as the boat sleeps.
