Nelson Lakes National Park

The group before me in the Jetboat at Buller Gorge

When the river floods, this waterfall is hidden!

The road gets covered when the river floods

We all look so cool!

We left Nelson at 8.30am and made our way along the West Coast to Westport. First we stopped at Nelson Lakes National Park, which was very scenic and there was the option of a walk, but as my knees were hurting again I sat by the lake watching the ducks and marvelling at the view. After people were back from their walk we drove for quite a while, passing through Buller Gorge, where the river quite often floods and has been known to completely cover the road at one point. We then stopped at Buller Adventure tours to sign up for jetboating, horse trekking or quad biking. I felt I ought to do something so opted for jetboating.

It was great fun, but I didn't get as wet as I thought I would! Maybe that's a good thing?! People have found gold in the river before, but unfortunately we didn't find any. After this it was back to the hostel to relax.

Today was ANZAC day, which stands for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps, at dawn they have the 'Dawn Parade' to remember the time that they landed at Gallipoli. Every small town we passed through we could see wreaths and poppies around the war memorials.
