AUCKLAND - Friday 16th February to Sunday 18th (Days 112 & 113)

For our last 3 nights in NZ we headed to Auckland, where nearly 1-in-3 NZ's live.

We had heard that the liner Queen Mary 2 was arriving at 7 am into Auckland Harbour on the Saturday morning. From our apartment window we saw it arrive, a spectacular sight. We then decided to take the ferry across the harbour to Devonport. On a very hot day (the weather has been great since Christchurch!), we followed a walk up to Mt. Victoria and then North Head (2 extinct volcanoes) with great views of the city and surrounding harbour. In the evening we watched a firework display as the Queen Mary 2 departed.

Our last day in NZ, Sunday, was spent with Gill getting those last minute presents and me updating this blog.

We have both thoughly enjoyed out time in NZ. We will each publish our own top 10 of the trip.

Tomorrow we start the long journey home via the Cook Islands & LA.
