PICTON - Saturday 3rd February to Sunday 4th (Days 99 & 100)
The main reason for going to Picton is that it is the port where you catch the ferry to the North Island and Wellington, our next port of call. However it also sits at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound, and is a base to explore the beautiful Marlborough Sounds.
I had intended to spend a day walking the Queen Charlotte track but had forgotten that it was Gill's birthday that day (Gill had a blister so didn't want anything too strenuous or far), so instead, on a very hot day indeed, we walked along a track that runs along the eastern side of Picton Harbour to Bob's Bay. We then started to walk along the Snout Walkway, which has superb views of Queen Charlotte Sound, but due to heat and lack of sufficient water supplies, we had to turn back. Despite this it was a very pleasant walk indeed, and sadly our last taste (this trip!) of the South Island.
