Started a fantastic day with a City tour. Loved Auckland...very reminiscent of Vancouver in its architecture, neighborhoods and natural beauty. The city is very clean and the people very friendly. The views from the Sky Tower were spectacular.

Auckland is known as the City of Sails for its many sailboats and it is said that one in every eleven inhabitants own a boat. Since we visited on a Sunday, the bay was teaming with boats. This is a city we would definitely come back to for a longer vacation.

In the afternoon, we took a ferry to Devonport Island which had a European flavor. The ferry docked right next to a beautiful city park and its "downtown" area. Many people were enjoying picnics and music in the park as well as in sidewalk cafes.

Tonight was a very special formal night since Cunard was hosting a banquet downtown at the City Center for the passengers going around the word—a record 900+ this year! We were transported from the ship by bus and we felt like movie stars since they had photographers and a red carpet waiting and onlookers stopped to gawk. The evening started with a cocktail hour with entertainment. We then moved to the main dining room for a sit down dinner, dancing and a few words from our Captain and the President of Cunard (a lady), who flew to Auckland just for this evening.

After the dinner, we visited briefly the Auckland casino before again taking Cunard's transportation back to the ship. It was a wonderful evening and a fabulous day. The ship sailed at 1 a.m. for Wellington.
