Its Machu Picchu aint it??
Up at 4am to be the first there. Had to wait til 5:30 for the checkpoint at Winay Wayna to open though, which was a bit boring.
It was about an hours walk to the "Sun Gate" that marks the start of Macchu Picchu - alas we could see nothing, all the view was obscured by mist. Fortunatley the clouds lifted later in the day to give us excellent views.
I went up to the top of Huayna Picchu mountain, where there are also some ruins. This was a hard 45 minute climb, especially in the midday heat, but was well worth it giving panoramic views of the whole area.
Went back to Cusco by the train - 4 hours at an average speed of approximately 15mph, including a set of switchbacks to descend into central Cusco.
Got to the hostal and collapsed and slept....
