It's been a while, but don't worry, I'm still alive and out here on the other side of the world!
The train journey from Jerantut to Kota Bahru was 6 and a half hours long, and the coldest and most uncomfortable journey I've ever had to make I think! Anyway, we left Jerantut at 2am and arrived at the jetty for the Perhentian Islands at about 10.30. We then had to get a boat to Pulau Kecil (Small Island in Malay) to where we were staying. We stayed at Moonlight on Long Beach, and it was beautiful (cantik). Since we hadn't really slept on the train once we checked in we spent the afternoon sleeping!
I actually saw more wildlife on the island than I did in the jungle! The first day we saw a monitor lizard that was over a metre long! We also saw a civet cat in the evening come down from a tree in front of our chalet. There were lots of butterflies and squirrels as well. Also mosquitoes, which is annoying as they seem to like biting only me!
We spent 5 days on the island, just relaxing, with the occasional bit of snorkelling to look at the coral and fishes, lying on the beach and swimming in the sea. Although once I found out there were sharks I wouldn't go in the water, even though everyone assured me they weren't dangerous!
Two women we met whilst on the islands were leaving on the same day as us, and they were flying to Kuala Lumpur. Asri and I decided that this was a much better idea than another 6 hour freezing train ride so we went along with them to the airport in Kota Bahru. The flight was only 50 minutes, you barely had time to realise you were in the air!
