Cricket in Kathmandu during the curfew

Friday 21st. April Day 53

Woke up to find the curfew had been renewed from 9am - 8pm although, whilst it seems more relaxed today we heard that there had been three killings by the army yesterday on the ring road. There were also rumours that the king would be making a speech on TV tonight, but most people dismissed it as not likely to contain anything useful - he's renowned for burying his head in the sand. Visited our travel company this morning but they are still waiting to get our visa from the Chinese, hopefully they will arrive this afternoon so that we can leave early tomorrow for Tibet. Another major demo on the ring road today as it seemed that after yesterday's demo and killings the army had taken the bodies from the hospital and cremated them without telling the families. This caused further riots and some government offices were ransacked. The tension was now high, we still had no visas due to the curfew. The king addressed the nation at 7pm with a fairly vague speech promising to restore democracy, but not many Nepalese thought it significant. In the evening we saw Puru - our visas have arrived and we leave KTM for Tibet at 2.30am. Another chapter in our travels is about to begin!
