Emergency! Helen's bag has gone!!
Sep 26, 2004
|Arriving in Fiji is mad! It's not like the cooks at all! Nadi town is a buzzing and chaotic place!
We got back to the hostel with the bags and tried to relax when we realised that Helen had picked up someone elses bag - more importantly that person had picked up Helen's bag!
Luckily the other person was using something called I-TRAK. Basically their bag had a code and a phone number on it. We phoned the number and arranged to meet the other person at the airport in the morning. When the bags were swapped we were all very relieved. The other person was also very apologetic.
WE RECOMMEND I-TRAK AND ARE GETTING IT FOR OUR BAGS!!
The hostel we stayed in on the first night (Nadi Downtown Backpackers) was very rough and we didn't go back. The sink was a trough with a standpipe for a tap.
By lunchtime we were at 'Horizon' hostel, which is much better. It costs about 5 quid a night here each!
In the afternoon we booked a 7 day island hopping trip around the 'Yasawas' (A group of islands off the north west coast of Viti Levu). Check our map for details.
We're going with Awesome Adventures and it looks great. The trip includes spending the day on a full sized 'Rigger' type saing boat, snorkelling, swimming in caves, visiting villages, kayaking and other things. The price also includes accomodation and food - which is great because there are no cash machines out there!
We head off on Thursday, so that'll be great! - It does mean that you won't hear from us on the site for a bit! We are still alive though and you'll hear all about it the second we get back!
In the evening we had a drink with Dave and Kerrin - a great couple that we met in the Cooks - Gareth got stuck into his duty free Smirnoff and Helen also has some of the old tax free Malibu! She says that it tastes so much better when it's tax free!
Life is good...
