Me, sitting by the fountain in the Convent "Santa Catalina" in Arequipa.

We took a public night bus (business class) from Nasca to Arequipa, it took about 7 hours in total. It was pretty good arriving at 6am and having the whole day to explore Arequipa. The two main attractions (the only attractions really) are the "Monasterio De Santa Catalina" (Santa Catalina Convent) and the archaeological museum. The convent is huge and well worth the relatively pricey 25 Soles (5 UK Pounds) entry fee. The archaeological museum was excellent, a guided tour cost 15 soles (3 pounds) and ended with a viewing of one of the mummies (a 15 year old girl) found in the local mountains, perfectly preserved in ice!

After "ticking-off" the must-see attractions we chilled out in the Plaza De Armas (town centre) with a coffee before hitting the town later on for a few drinks. The night life is pretty good and really cheap. Happy hour meant we got three drinks for 10 soles (2 pounds), given that the drinks had 3 or more shots in them... that was pretty good value! needless to say we had to drag ourselves back to the hotel for some sleep before the 7am flight to Cusco!
