Danny and Anna's Round The World Trip 2005 travel blog

The empty San Francisco beach

A half hour walk along the coast brought us to Playa San Francisco a fantastic sweeping beach which is not as busy as Playa Piriapolis in the town and where we spent most of the afternoon.

On the walk back to town we bought our tickets for the ferry but found out we cannot leave until sunday as two ferries somehow had a collision and put them out of action for two days. This meant we didn't have to get back to Colonia tonight and instead we could stay in Piriapolis for a few more hours and go up the chairlift to the lookout over town. Great views of Piriapolis and Punta del Este the resort for the rich in Uruguay around the coast laid out before us which we enjoyed with a cold beer.

We really liked Piriapolis. A smallish resort lacking the huge hotels and beachfront high rise with a great vibe and a very fierce sun. Both of us got burnt but Anna looks especially fetching with a red and white striped body.
