Lisy and I thought that we had beat mother nature by escaping the extra rainy winter of 2005 in Southern California, but she caught up with us here in New Zealand! We have been here just about 1 month, and it has rained all but 2 or 3 days. Some days the rain and wind are so strong that we cannot even drive our van!
Nevertheless, we are having a good time and getting full use of our cold weather clothes. We are making our way around New Zealand's North Island. In the past week we have explored the Bay of Plenty (named by Capt. Cook because he was impressed by all the bay had to offer) and the remote East Cape. We are now in Gisborne, New Zealand's sunniest city (and it's pouring). Gisborne is also the first place in the world to see the sun rise on each new day.
Since Christmas is a summer holiday in New Zealand, all the Kiwi's have taken to the roads and campgrounds. The beaches are starting to fill up, it's like a 4th of July type of celebration.
As we said before, every inch of New Zealand is green and beautiful, check out our latest pics.
