Mudgee Junior Wombats New Zealand Tour 2008

Junior Wombats travel blog
In 2005 the Mudgee Junior Wombats took on the might of New Zealand Rugby Union in a tour led by the illustrious George Hamilton. They returned home undefeated, heads held high but minus one player, leg in pieces, still in hospital.
The time has come for the Wombats to take on the Kiwis once again in the land of the long white cloud!
10 days, 4 games, 24 players and 6 bewildered adults!!
On this tour we will attack the North Island flying into Auckland and leaving from Wellington. Like the Bledisloe Cup this year, there will be 4 games played against Glenfield College(Auckland), Reporoa College(Ant O'Reilly's home town team from Reporoa), Tauhara College(Taupo) and Upper Hutt College(Wellington).
The boys have been undergoing strenuous training under the watchful eyes of Rod Boness, Greg Bartrim, Geoff Cheetham, Brent Bannister, Mick Sheridan and John McGoverne. They have even ensured they train under prospective weather conditions in New Zealand with rain being a feature of nearly every training session.
The team is an exciting mixture of players from last year's two Wombats Under 15 teams that played each other in the Final of the Central West Under 15 competition. They have size! They have speed! They have moves that have to be seen to be believed! The rumour is that Robbie Deans will sneek in for a look while they are in his home country- he is always looking for talent for his new look Wallabies team!

The players and their families have been busy raising money since the last tour with last year being an exceptional effort in teamwork and commitment. We have lost count of how many sausages we have cooked and how many tickets we have sold! It is not possible on this website to name all the people that have made this tour possible. You know who you are-THANKYOU!!!! Special thanks go to Greg's Tyres, Simply Devine, Norton's Business Advisors and Peter Druitt Real Estate for sponsoring the team and the Mudgee Wombats Senior team for their continued support.

The time has come to show the New Zealanders who we are in the RED, WHITE and BLUE!!
