Our new friends were telling us to go to Clitheroe, a market town just 4 stations down the line.
So we decided today was the day.
The canal was iced over when we peeked out of the window, but we didn't let that put us off (maybe we should have!!)
Sitting in the railway station waiting room the wind was blowing an absolute gale and the snow was horizontal!!
However, we didn't let that deter us, and once we arrived in Clitheroe the snow had turned to rain - my poor umbrella didn't fare too well though.
We climbed the stone steps to the castle and quickly looked at the view which was a bit misty, then walked back down into town.
Of course, we picked the only day the market doesn't open, but it probably wouldn't have been much of a market with the weather anyway.
We had a great lunch at the Conservative Club of steak pie with lots of vegetables (nice and hot too).
Then we wandered back to the station and came back to the nice warm boat.
