Ron & Elena's 2007-2010 Travels travel blog

(Ron Writing) Luckily we didn’t get any stormy weather at Brady last night but we did get a good night’s sleep at this quiet Wal*Mart location. We like the supercenters in these smaller towns because they do not stay open all night and as a result they are very quiet.

Today we continued north from Brady on US-377 to Brownswood, TX where we got on Hwy 279 north to Cross Plains. All along this drive we saw quite a few flowers. They must have had better rain in this northern part of the hill country. From Cross Plains we headed northwest on Hwy 36 to Abilene. We stopped at the Flying J near Abilene where we purchased gas ($3.499/gal) and propane ($3.199/gal). We also dumped our holding tanks and refilled our fresh water tank. Most Flying J’s have a dump station for RVs and there is no charge for using it.

From Abilene we headed west on I-20 to Sweetwater, TX. We were getting a little tired of driving by this time and we spotted a Wal*Mart right beside the interstate. We stopped here and were surprised how hot it was when we stepped out of the truck – 98°! After a little shopping we started the generator and the air conditioner which quickly made it comfortable inside Da Honu. We’ll be spending the night here.

After dinner Elena made strawberry sauce and cooked cinnamon apples to serve over ice cream. We’ll be using the strawberry sauce for strawberry waffles one of these mornings. Sure makes the house smell good!
