We were here in Monterey 5 nights. We drove down the coast from Eureka to Napa and across to Sacramento one day and then drove the rest of the way a 2nd day (no way we were going back to I5 the way we came). It was a great drive on 101-no ocean views but no mountains either. No time to do Napa this trip.
Monterey was great. Dale's brothers Bill and Dave and Sue, a friend of Dave's, met us there. Bill stayed at our campground in one of the cabins and Dave stayed in town. We went to the Monterey Aquarium, drove along the coast thru Big Sur, and did the 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach, saw Fisherman's warf and Cannery Row. If you are ever in Monterey with only one day do the 17 mile drive-it is amazing.
The first night Dale and I had some great seafood at Fish Hoppers on a waterfront deck where I was attacked by a seagull---twice. Okay, maybe not really attacked but one did hop on my table and steal the butter, and another landed on the floor right behind me and paniced when it couldn't fly thru the clear plastic wind shield-big excitement. Right below the deck there were sea lions resting on the rocks and one wiggling on the sand scratching it's back.
Next stop is Sequoia and Kings Canyon.
