Inside Treehouse

Another hour and a half drive and we arrived at Hapuku Lodge, about 10 km from a cute little beach town called Kaikoura. It's absolutely beautiful here...it was built by a Kiwi couple who now actually live in California. The lodge itself sits between the mountains and the South Pacific, and is on an olive grove with tons of deer and sheep roaming about. We're staying in an actual treehouse (3 full flights of stairs above ground), by far the coolest hotel room I have ever seen. We have an in-room wood burning fireplace, a Jacuzzi and shower which both overlook the grounds. Words can't explain this place, you really do have to see it to believe it.

We were starving so we headed into town, which thrives on tourists coming to whale, seal, or dolphin watch. We ate lunch at a local restaurant, and I had the worlds' most disgusting nachos, more like BBQ sauce with chips and sour cream...ick. We're back at the room now...this lodge is way too neat to do anything else but hang out.
