Note the bends in the stone fences

The Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales

A drive through the Yorkshire Dales until we reach Kendal in the Lake District.

The Yorkshire Dales is James Herriot country. All grass, no crops. A mix of cattle and sheep. The stone fences are quite high and zig zag everywhere – with no rhyme or reason. Perhaps they go around where trees used to be

Good roads mixed with narrow – sometimes just using 2nd and 3rd gear as we climb and make our way around tight corners and over narrow bridges – having to stop and let other traffic through from time to time.

Lovely drive but takes a lot of concentration and can be quite tiring.

We try to find a supermarket in Kendal – narrow roads going everywhere, some one way. We eventually find ourselves driving on a narrow lane, around a few tight corner (giving way to oncoming traffic) and suddenly are in a small car park – finally a supermarket even if by default.

We then try to find a pub for tea – keep getting lost and eventually end up in the same damn car park.

We eventually find our road out of town to our motel and thankfully a pub.
