We made the short 2 hr drive to Phoenix on Sunday pulling into the Phoenix Metro RV Park mid- afternoon. This is a 55+community on I-17. The senior status means this is a quiet, friendly park with large sites.
We decided to stop here when we realized the Texas Rangers were playing a double-header with the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix on Memorial Day. I was excited for the chance to see the Rangers especially since they will not be in California while we are there. We bought tickets for the first game online while we were still in Flagstaff because Darvish was pitching that game. Then they decided to have Yu pitch the second game and let a rookie pitch the first. Oh well. At least I got to see a game in air-conditioned comfort.
This turned out to be a duel of rookie pitchers and this time their guy won. Of course the fact they played 13 innings in Seattle the night before using up the bullpen tiring the hitters probably had a lot to do with the score being 5-0 at the beginning of the ninth. They managed to score 3 runs and had 2 men on when the the inning was over. At least they made the end exciting. In the second game Darvish struck out 14 but gave up the tying homerun in the ninth. The Rangers lost 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth.
We did like Chase Field. We had good seats just to the Rangers side of home. We parked in the garage across the street. Traffic in and out was easy to negotiate even when we were unfamiliar with the streets. The food was good and priced right. Except for the Rangers loss, we enjoyed our day.
Tomorrow will be a day to re-group. Time to clean up and crash to prepare to head into California.
