|This one will have to be quick since we're being charged by the minute (thanks, Port Hedland!) but really it's alright..
We just spent the night at a free campground by the beautiful De Grey river in WA. We bought a book of free camping in WA and it's already paid its way along. We hope to use it lots since it's pretty outrageous to pay $20/night to pitch a tent for the night. I'm sure we'll cave every few days when we want showers, though ;-)
We will be heading south, then southwest to hit up the Karijini National park which is known for its deep cold pools of (predator-free) fresh water in deep beautiful gorges. After that we will try and go to the Dampier archipelago since we hear it's free camping right on the beach and you can snorkel the corals there. We bought our snorkel gear in Broome for cheap and its good stuff, so yay for that. Rob is especially excited about it since he can't seem to stop bringin it up. We've created a monster here since now we can't be away from the ocean for more than a few days, since boogie boarding was such a smashing success.
The nights are getting cold again (by cold I mean less hot) but it's chilly enough that we're finally not sweating out of our sleeping bags. We are continuing our growing collection of sandfly and mosquito bites and Rob's beard has hit an all time shag. We feel properly bush :-)
Gotta run and get on the road again. Hopefully we'll be back in internet range within 5-7 days.
- weirdest roadkill: donkey
- newest addiction: apple chews (like apple minties without the mint)
- most interesting animals on the road: tie- lizards and cows (not at the same time)
- source of weird smell in car: rotting lost potato (marianne would like to say she feels vindicated that she indeed could smell something off in the car! hah!)
PS Jason, we haven't forgotten about your birthday, just allow for a bit of a delay okay? Happy birthday man!
Take care all and hope you had a lovely Canada day!
