|After some heavy overnight rain the river was fair gushing along
No stepping stones today!!
While out walking we read the local notices and saw that the Gargrave Bell Ringers were practising on Monday evenings. So we walked down after dinner, climbed the narrow spiral stone stairs up the bell tower. There we spent an hour and a half watching 6 ringers do their thing. Very interesting. And talking to one old fellow in his 80's, Digby, he told me he had travelled to Australia and New Zealand in the 1990's on a bell ringing holiday - he's been ringing since the mid 1940's and rang the bells on VEday.
Gargrave is around an old Roman site - we're really soaking up all the history.
