The Capper Nomads Europe Adventure travel blog

A beautiful day. Today we explored Lake Uri the fjord like finger of Lake Lucerne. We headed first to the western side of the lake to Seelisberg which gave great views of the lake. It was on this side of the lake where the Oath of Eternal Alliance was signed by the three cantons in 1291.

We then moved on to Altdorf which was where William Tell is reputed to have performed his apple-shooting stunt. Today there is a monument to William Tell in the main square.

From there we drove the east side of this beautiful lake stopping at the Tellskapelle (William Tell Chapel) which has murals depicting four episodes of the Tell legend. In addition, there was a huge carillon that chimes behind the chapel.
