Despite the further threat of rain we decided to explore the other end of Ullswater. Parking at Pooley Bridge we headed up the fells. We found an ancient stone circle and an old Roman road close to the trail. The trail was very boggy in places so had to do a number of detours.
As we got to cragg at the top we got great panoramic views, despite the overcast skies, across the surrounding areas including down on Ullswater. It was then a steep descent back to the village where there was the inevitable tea room.
On our whole walk we had got away with one brief shower. Thank goodness!
