Limberjack

We took another of the suggested drives from the campground and took mountain roads to Sparta,NC a small town with CJ Hardware that is legendary and has just about everything one would want. Not sure what we were looking for but they did not have it however. We then drove more mountain hills and vales, got back onto the Blue Ridge parkway and stopped at the Music Center. This is run by the park service. We had visited before years ago but enjoyed the exhibits, listened to an authentic group playing mountain songs. There are different entertainers each day. We then were entertained by the park ranger who demonstrated the Limberjack dancing doll. This is a percussion instrument and if managed properly did keep the rhythm for the group when no drum was available - looked easy but I'm sure takes quite a bit of practice. We saw this in bands at Mt. Airy but did not understand the significance of the dancing doll.
