Thursday and Friday were pretty much travelling days. Seemed to spend ages in Bonnie but the scenery was good and the weather not brilliant so it was fine. South West Rocks was recommended to us as a nice place to visit but we arrived too late to do very much. However we did buy some fresh prawns and fish from Nelson's Bay and had a really nice fishy BBQ. Had a wander around in the morning and did some shopping for essentials before hitting the road again.
We arrived in Byron Bay late on Friday evening with the intention of having a no drive day on Saturday. The campsite was perfectly located near the centre of town but far enough out not to hear the nightlife, of which there was lots due to the school leavers having descended on the place for the weekend. It was packed! Succumbed to a Domino's pizza - very Australian.
Leigh's back was not too bad on Saturday but not good enough for sea kayaking which was on the agenda - as it happened the sea was too rough so we couldn't have gone anyway! Save if for another day. We set off for a walk along the beach and ended up doing about 5 miles. Went up to the Lighthouse and through the woods. Spotted a pod of Dolphins feeding close to the shore. Lovely walk. I even braved the elements and went for a swim on the way back. Luckily nobody harpooned me!
As the weather promised rain we headed back to the van for a steak BBQ. Leigh prepared the steaks and put them on the table outside. 2 mins later I was chasing what can only be described as a wild Turkey down the road that had pinched one of the steaks! Luckily it got worried and dropped it! Made the neighbours and Leigh laugh anyway!
Made it inside the van just before the rain started. Looks like an early night for us!
