Spent a good week on Jersey in the Channel Islands on a walking holiday with Ramblers. 16 this time, a good group all from UK except for me and a woman from California. I walked most days but opted out a couple of days. Weather warmer at last, a couple of days quite hot. Why does the weather take on so much importance! I feel better about Jersey after a few days - stunning coastline, very long sandy beaches but very tidal. Many houses built from the very beautiful Jersey granite - a mix of rose grey and yellow colour. My back coped much better and now I am in Holland it is really good - almost pain free.
Had a hassel getting to Holland. My flight from Jersey to London Gatwick on Saturday was delayed by an hour and I missed my connecting flight to Amsterdam. I then had to find a hotel, get a cab to and from it, buy another plane ticket so it turned out quite expensive. Hopefully will get cost back from travel insurance. Unfortunately by the time I had contacted Gerda and Peter they had already driven more than an hour to pick me up and then returned the next morning.
It''s been great to catch up with them after about 4 years when they were in Australia. We have visited two couples they know, one for a very pleasant afternoon tea which went on for hours on Sunday and yesterday for a 5 course gourmet lunch cooked by Burt, Peter's oldest friend. Both couples are very very nice and live in stunning homes with lovelygardens. Today we drove to Armersfoort, a nice smallish town about half an hour away. It has some interesting architecture and squares with outdoor eating areas and it is a sunny day so we sat outside and ate lunch.
Tomorrow morning early I take the train to Berlin - it will take most of the day. Have rented what looks to be a very nice apartment there for 8 nights and will be joined by Barbara and Eve, 2 friends from London. I haven''t been there before and am really looking forward to it.
Hope all are well and to hear from you with your news
