MISSION BEACH - Wednesday 29th November to Friday 1st December (Days 33-35)

Arrived the previous afternoon to Mission Beach. Wow! This really was a place we could chill out. We had booked 3 nights at the Sejala Beach huts. Our hut was named 'Beaches', and as the name suggests it was right on Mission Beach, a coconut fringed 14km golden sanded beach with views over to Dunk island. It was paradise. Well it would have been if the local sand fly population hadn't decided to munch their way through our legs for the entire stay. The other thing we shall remember was the foul smell that occassionally wafted through our hut. We found out that this was caused by the coral that makes up the Great Barrier Reef spawning! (apparently it started on the first full moon of November).

Despite these minor irritations, this really was a great place to relax and top up the suntan. Each night we sat on the hut decking with the night torches lit looking up to a star crowded sky with just the sound of the crashing waves to keep us company (and sand flies). Bliss! This is what this holiday is all about.

We departed on the Friday morning for a long hop south, a 9 hour bus journey to Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays. This would normally be the day we opened the first window on our advent calendar.
