OK, it rained all night and is continuing to rain fairly heavily this morning. We have been told by numerous people that hiking the glacier in the rain/snow is not a good deal of fun. Kinda sucks but we are flexible and I changed a couple of bookings. So, the new journey takes us from Fox Glacier, through the pouring rain on winding roads, to Greymouth, an old coal mining centre. From there we caught the TransAlpine scenic train, quite possibly the bumpiest train I have ever been on in my life. The scenery is nice and you get commentary on all of the sights during the 4 hours journey. You also get to go through the third longest tunnel in New Zealand, which takes about 20 min. I have no idea where the first and second tunnels are but I really don't think I need to experience them.
We arrived in Christchurch around 6PM and got to the really cute B&B called Dorothy's. It is in a restored Edwardian mansion right on the edge of the CBD across from a nice leafy green park. It also has a Wizard of Oz theme complete with ruby slippers. No pics yet but we as working on it.. Again, we got a huge room, this one was all done up in turn of the century Edwardian and Arts and Craft furniture. It kinda looks like parts of our house.
Went out to sample to hopping nightlife of Christchurch and it wasn't so bad. We played pool with some people at one bar, chatted with a boy from Auckland at another and met some very nice lads at the third spot. I think we got home around 3 or so.
