View from the sea wall back to the beach

Coffs Harbour Marina

The bridge that we never did get to see

This is a hole at the bottom of which a mutton bird...

If it is not whales it is dolphins!

These guys were pretty cool buskers

But we really loved these ones

This little boy they pulled from the crowd was almost as entertaining...

We woke up to a lovely dry morning and began packing up the van. After an uneventful drive down to Coffs Harbour we set up camp then pretty much relaxed for the rest of the afternoon. In the morning I started my day with a nice long walk on the beach then we headed into town. We were trying to find our way to the historic jetty but somehow end up at the marina by mistake. We decided that since we are here we might take a quick walk along the sea wall to have a look. And what a lovely surprise! It led right out past the marina and then became a bridge leading onto Mutton Bird Island. This is a breeding ground for the wedge-tailed shearwaters (or mutton birds as they are commonly known)who come back here every year after spending the winter in South East Asia. We followed the pathway up the hill and down again marveling at the gorgeous views all around us and at the hundreds of holes in the ground at the bottom of which the birds make their nests. Right at the end of the path we were gazing out over the ocean and soon we were dolphin watching. We had to tear ourselves away from here at it was just so beautiful.

We finally headed into town where we found out there was a Buskers festival on – talk about great timing! We had a good laugh watching a couple of the acts then headed back out to the jetty again but just as we pulled up into the car park the glorious weather we had been enjoying all day turned and it started to shower. Concerned about the windows we had left open in the van we decided to forgo the jetty and made it back in time to close up the van before the rain hit. All in all a really lovely day and a really lovely place! Would come back again definitely.
