We started out to Kayak Yaquina Bay but the port launch was so busy and the weather so foggy we decided to try Beaver Creek. The Beaver is a nice new boat ramp area immediately across from Ona Beach where we walked just yesterday. We launched into a seeming reflecting pool of immense beauty. We paddled toward the Pacific under the 101 bridge. The scenery was beautiful and restful. There were several lily pads. We went to the terminus of Beaver creek where a giant sand bar separated the creek from the Pacific. We then retraced and went eastward into an amazingly beautiful bog area penetrated by Beaver creek. We went about 2.5 miles eastward in a stream that wound through the bog. The birds were very numerous. We spotted blue heron, robbins, kingfishers, swallows, eagle, thrush and many others. The banks were loaded with reeds and grasses. Colorful flowers sprouted randomly throughout. The water acted as a reflecting pool as it was so calm and peaceful . Time seemed to stand still as we wandered through this scenic bog. Towards the eastern terminus the stream narrowed down and finally we had to turn about and retrace our path. What a fun day. We celebrated our final day on the Coast with lunch again at the Saffron Salmon. Bill had lamb burger, I had Ciapino, Nancy had salmon salad and Barb had the Dungeness crab cakes. We shared a marionberry cobbler. Bill protested that I ate the majority-his spoon was no match for mine! Off to Portland in the morning.
