Sedona was voted "The Most Beautiful Place in America" by the nationally distributed USA WEEKEND publication and we can surely see why! It is described as "a place that looks like nowhere else" and we found that to be true. The city itself sits in the bottom of a canyon surrounded by red-rock monoliths, some of which tower more than a mile-high. It is located in Arizona's high desert and the hills are covered with forests. It is one of those places that is a "must-see" before you die. Sedona lies at the mouth of beautiful Oak Creek Canyon and the Mogollon Rim rises 2000 feet from the floor of the canyon and was formed by ancient deposits of limestone, mudstone and sandstone. The rim is the southwestern boundary of the Colorado Plateau which extends into 5 other states and is home to the largest contiguous stand of Ponderosa Pine trees in the world. Sedona is said to be one of the hot spots around the world of natural energy called a "vortex." Vortexes are believed to create positive, negative and neutral releases of the Earth's energy. Native Americans consider Sedona a mystical and spiritual place. It is certainly the most breathtaking places we have seen.
