View across the reservoirs at the start of the walk

Can not beat this for a lunch spot view

Perfectly still water

After a couple of days out in the car exploring the Yorkshire Dales we decided it was time for a bit of chill-out but also some exploration of the local area.

Just up the road from the campground there was a series of reservoirs built in the 1900s. According to our “1001 Great Walks” there was a five and half mile circular walk around Blackton Reservoir and through the Hannah Houxwell meadows. So with our trail map, lunch and walking shoes on, we headed out. It was a glorious day. The trail took us by the reservoir, climbed up to the moors and then through farmed fields and beautiful meadows back to the car. We met only one other person on the walk a gentleman from the southern hemisphere – an Australian who was on a walk about!

We didn’t rush. This is what travelling and the freedom to go where you want is about!
