Nick & Andreas taking a rest

So now our last day on the South Island has arrived :o) We will certainly be very sorry to leave.

Our new German friend, Andreas, decided against heading onwards on his bike today, and we spent the day together. Mostly chatting this morning, and then at about 11.30 we went off for a hike along the peninsula east of Picton. The walk took longer than we anticipated actually and we only got back at 17.00, so we're all pretty tired.

Pictures from the walk above.

The boys have just got back from the supermarket (we're treating Andreas to steak for dinner) while I started packing. We have to be at the ferry terminal by 9am tomorrow, so it will be another early start.

Not sure when the next internet opportunity will be. We have one night planned in Wellington, before heading north toward Tongariro National Park.

We have a little bottle of bubbly to toast goodbye to the South Island, so I'll say 'cheers' for now.
