|Friday, we got downtown at 10:00 am, got parked. Today we are going to the Tower of America, Buckhorn Saloon and Museum for sure.
It never fails, Candy had to go to Court, as you see I got her picture coming out of the court house. Something about her papers not in order.
First stop we walked about 4 miles, I rode, over to the Tower of America and rode to the top. What a nice view of San Antonio. It was clear and you could see for miles. This was built in 1968 for the Worlds Fair that was held in San Antonio. The observation deck is called Flags Over Texas, which all around on the walls gives the history of all the flags that have flown over Texas. Also there was a 4-D movie that was on a Imax screen with the seats moving for effect. You feel the effect of being hit in a high school football game, space shuttle launch, and riding a bull at the rodeo.
A town sure looks different from 750 feet above town. I was hard to pick out some of the places. We could see pick out the court house Candy was in, the At&T Center where the San Antonio Spurs play, basketball team.
We went over to the Buckhorn Saloon Museum for lunch. We got there an Candy dumped me for a western man. I just didn't have the hat. The Buckhorn Saloon was established in 1881 and is where Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders. Many of the original furnishings still grace the saloon today, the back bar was hancrafted of marble and cherry wood. The museum is ready two parts, many full size stuffed animals from around the world from African, Asian, and American animals. The other parts is the Texas Ranger Museum which was much history of the Texas Rangers and artifacts including revolvers, automatic handgus, sawed off shotguns, badges and history explained.
This was the highlight of the day, Candy took a 2 hour tour on a Segway. She really got the handle on riding this two wheel machine.
Some more pictures of Candy on the Segway. As she was riding some of the younger people they would pass called out to Candy "way to go Grandma", were they saying something?
That was it for the day
