Today we visited the largest castle in Wales Caerphilly Castle. The castle stands magnificently surrounded by a large moat/lake and now gardens all the way round. It had some interesting features: A leaning tower that leans even more then the famous leaning tower of Pisa as a result of an attack in the Civil War or due to subsidence when the lake was drained; An area of recreated full-scale replicas of siege engines capable of raining down a storm of missiles; and some interesting towers which had great views and hidden passageways which are said to be haunted.

Heading back to base we stopped at New Tredegar to visit the Winding House. Built in 1891 , the winding house of the former Elliot Colliery now houses a museum and a magnificent restored Victorian steam engine , once part of the local mine.
