Today we visited the isolated but magnificently sited Carreg Cennen Castle near Llandeilo. The castle was constructed high on a rock outcrop in 1248 and it remained a Welsh stronghold until it fell to the English in 1277. The main purpose was not really the castle but to enjoy the views from the castle of the surrounding area of the Black Mountain and the Tywi and Cennen valleys. . After visiting the castle we enjoyed a walk around the valleys surrounding the castle.

From Carreg Cennen we then drove across the Black Mountain again experiencing fantastic views across the surrounding country side.
